One of the primary goals of IASK is to encourage professional black women to take better care of themselves FIRST (SELF) across 5 key areas of their lives—one being physical health & wellness. We also know that black women have a higher rate of obesity and physical illness (such as hypertension, heart disease, Cancer) than do their female counterparts of other races.
According to many publications in printed forms and on-line (see BlackHealthCare.com) “the state of health for African-Americans is especially precarious. Chronic disease has an excessive impact on minority populations.”
Part of their findings also indicated that the prevalence of certain diseases among African Americans is more than 70% higher than none African American populations. In addition, studies have also shown many diseases we suffer from are avoidable with proper diet and nutrition.
Ladies, it is critical for us to take immediate action to better take care of ourselves. Please ask yourself who is most important to you? Is it your children, your spouse, your boyfriend, your sister girl, your parents, your fellow employees, who? If your answer was anyone other than yourself, that is the wrong answer.
It is critical that we take care of ourselves first in order to take care of those we love. We are incapable of being our best if we continue to give ourselves anything less.
